5 ingredients to avoid in soap

Soap is one of the most popular beauty treatments with a global consumption of 2.5 million tons per year. It even exceeds the number of shampoos sold. The skin is the body's largest organ. The cosmetic products that we apply can penetrate it and go into the bloodstream. What are the 5 toxic ingredients to avoid in order to enjoy a healthy soap?

    The 5 ingredients to avoid

    1. Surfactants

The soap foam is obtained from surfactants such as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES), and Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate (ALS).

These come from the petrochemical industry and cause skin irritation and allergies. Not to mention that they are carcinogenic. They are often responsible for the "crocodile skin" effect because they dry out the skin. Moreover, the skin is never clean thanks to the foam. It's a marketing myth!

    1. Chemical Pigments

They make it possible to have colored soaps (white, yellow, green, pink, etc.) but certain dyes used are very allergenic. They are found under the domination CI + 5 digits. Ex: CI11680…

    toxic industrial soap

    1. EDTA

Ethylene-Diamino-Tetra-Acetate by its scientific name has been criticized for several years by consumer associations. Industrial soap manufacturers put it in their formulas to guarantee consumers a soap that does not change in texture, color, or smell. The intention is alright but the danger is that it is irritating and its long-term effects on human health are unknown. It is also a pollutant because it is not biodegradable.

    1. Industrial Palm Oil

It is the most consumed vegetable oil in the world with a production of 62 million tons per year. It is produced mainly in Indonesia and Malaysia. Very economical, its use causes massive deforestation and a loss of habitat for several thousand animals including orangutans as well as those of rural populations.

Forests are burned to plant new oil palms. Tons of CO2 is released and thus contribute to global warming. It's catastrophic!

    5- Endocrine disruptors

Endocrine disruptors (EDs) are chemical substances of natural or artificial origin that are foreign to the body. They can interfere with the functioning of the endocrine system and induce harmful effects on the internal organs of an individual or on his/her offspring ( WHO, 2002)

More specifically, these preservatives, these chemical fragrances of synthetic origin are known to cause cancer, fertility disorders, diabetes, and neurodegenerative diseases over several generations.

You can find them with the following names:

SILICONES, PARABEN, PHENOXYETHANOL, PHTHALATES, ALKYLPHENOLS, RESORCINOL, LILIAL

In short, avoid any ingredient ending with ETH, starting with PEG, or having the name of PARABEN, TRICLOSAN…
